Product Overview
The SMARTEMP HSC-FD Fixed Helical Swirl Diffuser is designed for modern HVAC applications that require high flexibility, low-temperature supply air and variable air volume (VAV) operation. Its innovative design combines radially offset vanes, cambered leading edges and a span-wise helical twist within a bell-mouth discharge. As a result, the diffuser generates exceptional induction and air mixing, even during significant airflow turndown.
Key Features
- Architectural appearance. The flush-face diffuser features a fixed aperture and fixed blades. Consequently, it provides a clean, modern finish.
- VAV-optimised swirl vane design.
- Radially offset vanes direct airflow into the bell-mouth.
- Cambered leading edges improve airflow attachment and reduce the likelihood of vane stall.
- A span-wise helical twist further improves airflow attachment. As a result, the diffuser maintains a stable discharge pattern.
- Stable airflow performance. The bell-mouth discharge and swirl pattern create a strong Coanda effect. Consequently, the diffuser maintains stable horizontal airflow, even when airflow is reduced or low-temperature supply air is used.
- High airflow capacity. Delivers airflow up to 440L/s (approximately 1584m³/h), depending on diffuser size.
- Wide VAV operating range. Operates down to approximately 25 to 28% of full airflow at a supply-to-room temperature differential of approximately -16K. Therefore, it is ideal for low-temperature supply air of 8°C or higher.
- Flexible discharge options. Provides a horizontal 360° radial discharge pattern with a standard 600 × 600mm square face for ceiling grid installations. Alternatively, round face variants suit exposed ceiling applications.
- Versatile installation. Suitable for both flush ceiling installations and free-hanging applications, depending on the selected model.
Construction & Options
The HSC-FD uses powder-coated galvanised steel for long-term durability. In addition, selected sizes are available with a stainless steel face. The fixed swirl vanes sit flush with the diffuser face. As a result, the diffuser maintains a clean architectural appearance.
Optional accessories include:
- Neck reducers. These reduce the effective airflow of high-capacity models while preserving the VAV operating range.
- Segment covers. Consequently, you can convert the discharge pattern from a full 360° discharge to 270°, 180° or twin 90° outlets for directional airflow control.
- CleanScreen™ option. A perforated hub delivers dehumidified or clean supply air across the diffuser face. As a result, it reduces soiling, condensation and maintenance requirements in coastal, restaurant and other high-humidity environments.
- Choice of face styles. Select a square lay-in tile format (DN250 to DN500) or a round face with a diameter approximately 1.4 times the neck diameter for exposed ceiling and vertical duct installations.
Benefits in Application
- Excellent occupant comfort. The high-induction swirl pattern rapidly mixes supply air with room air. Consequently, it promotes even temperatures while reducing draughts, even with low-temperature supply air.
- Energy-efficient operation. Low pressure loss and effective air distribution reduce fan energy while supporting either long throw or low-velocity performance.
- Optimised for VAV systems. The wide airflow turndown range makes the diffuser ideal for variable air volume systems, particularly those operating with low-temperature supply air.
- Architectural integration. The flush-face design and optional face styles complement modern suspended and exposed ceiling systems.
- Future flexibility. Neck reducers and segment covers allow simple adaptation to future layout or fit-out changes with minimal disruption.
