Flinders Medical Centre’s Upgrade Features ADA Duct Board™

The recently completed $185.5 million redevelopment at Flinders Medical Centre (FMC) marks a major investment in healthcare for Adelaide’s southern community. Located alongside the existing hospital, the project introduces modern facilities designed to improve patient care and support growing healthcare demands.

As part of the South Australian Government’s Transforming Health initiative, the redevelopment includes a new five-level Rehabilitation Building covering approximately 11,000m2. In addition, the project delivers a new Mental Health Unit and essential supporting services infrastructure.

Westside Group delivered the mechanical services package, valued at approximately $10.5 million. To support the facility’s HVAC requirements, the project team selected ADA Duct Board™ as a key component of the air distribution system.

Importantly, the Flinders Medical Centre redevelopment is one of the largest ADA Duct Board™ projects completed to date. ADA manufactured all duct board components and ductwork locally at its Welland facility in South Australia. As a result, the project not only benefited from innovative HVAC technology but also supported local manufacturing.

Compared with traditional sheet metal ductwork, ADA Duct Board™ offers significant advantages. It reduces installation costs, improves environmental performance, and enhances workplace safety. Furthermore, the lightweight system helps simplify handling and installation on large-scale projects.

ADA assembles the ductwork using its unique range of duct board components and proprietary extrusions. Consequently, ADA can provide a complete ductwork solution, from manufacture through to project delivery. This approach helps contractors achieve efficient installation, reliable performance, and long-term value.

Today, the Flinders Medical Centre redevelopment stands as a showcase of innovative construction and Australian manufacturing. The project demonstrates how ADA Duct Board™ can deliver high-performance HVAC solutions for some of South Australia’s most significant healthcare developments.
